Entering his profession as a part-time announcer at KWMT-KKEZ, Fort Dodge, IA, in 1976, Mike has charted a steady and burgeoning two-decade career in the radio business, serving as Announcer, Account Executive and Sales Manager for a number of stations throughout the northern Midwest. >From 1990 to 1999 Mike guided KAYL AM & FM as that operation's Station Manager, before moving to his present position with KUOO/KUQQ in February, 1999.

wit_r_kuoo_image.gif (538 bytes) Steven H. Heaton - Operations Manager
In the past nineteen years Steve has performed an impressive range and variety of functions for Spirit Lake's two FM radio stations. Following eight years as Progam Director and on-air talent, he assumed the role of Staff Engineer and designed, constructed, installed and maintained broadcast equipment and facilities during a period of extensive upgrades in power and technology. (CHECK ACCURACY of THAT STATEMENT) In 1996 Steve was named Operations Manager and currently oversees the functioning of all departments and systems responsible for the operation of the two stations and a regional weather cable channel.
Still a part of the stations' on-air presence, Steve also represents the operation at public engagements and is a key figure in the company's staff development and implementation of new technologies.

George likes to tell people that his radio career started at age 16 while he was hauling manure with his father and heard an ad seeking part-time announcers at KSMN in Mason City, IA. Deciding there might be life outside the family farm, he pursued and won the part-time position, which led to a full time radio career after his graduation from high school in 1985.
Following positions including Morning News Anchor for KGLO (Mason City), News Director at KCOB (Newton) and General Manager of KLSN (Jefferson), George ultimately assumed his present assignment as morning man and Program Director for the Spirit Lake stations.
As a newsman George has won numerous awards from the Associated Press, United Press International, and the Radio and Television News Directors' Association, and has filed reports for CBS, ABC, the Associated Press, and United Press radio networks.

While still in high school, Steve began his radio career as a part-time announcer for KKOJ -- a daytime only AM station in Jackson, MN. He was promoted to full-time on-air talent in 1983 and grew in that position until he was named News Director for the station in 1992.
Hired away as News/Weather Director by KUOO FM in 1996, Steve continues in that capacity for the operation -- an assignment that entails gathering, writing and delivering five daily newscasts from Monday through Saturday, as well as several weathercasts each day. His duties also include supervising and coordinating special coverage of severe weather conditions as they arise.
